Leviticus 23. Sometimes I like to randomly open the bible and just start reading. I guess Leviticus 23 was appropriate for these times (it's the "holiday season" as I write). It's talking about the different feasts of the Lord. At first it seemed overly complex. All of the different sacrifices that needed to be made. But honestly, there's something so much more -real- about their traditions. Even if gathering a bunch of animals and slaughtering them doesn't seem like a "holiday"/ holy-day. Although in some countries that is still a very normal thing to do at a holiday festival.

This chapter reminded me of how poor people were second rate. There's no way poor people could participate in any of this stuff! They didn't have 'seven lambs without blemish of the first year' to sacrifice. And that's just getting started on the things sacrificed. But wasn't a lot of "sacrificing" things in these times mostly a type of donation to the priest class? From my understanding, the priest class at the time did not have jobs, they lived at the temple doing the temple duties. So from what I gather, the sacrifices and the donations are what kept the priest class going. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I have a contact page.

Another Thing I came to suddenly realise is that no matter how 'odd' their traditions are, they are so much more real than the things people do today without questioning it. Easter bunny? Halloween? Santa Claus? It's all so dumb. Pagan traditions that everyone is expected to go along with because it's just the way it is.

Noteable in this chapter is Leviticus 23:22 which gives the order "And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou repest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: for I am the Lord your God."
